"Get Ready To Rock" review, by Joe Geesin

MICHAEL KATON
Live On The Prowl
Provogue

If you like dirty blues rock and boogie, Katon is your man. Rank him alongside George Thorogood and Pat Travers.
This live set kicks off with “Guitar For My Friend”, a great rocker that will really get you going. It’s a little bright / harshly recorded, but no matter.
The roughness to the opening track reminds me of Captain Beefheart’s “Ice Cream For Crow”, and there’s a cracking guitar solo too. Three piece blues / boogie metal at its best. A simple yet solid bass line holds court while Katon really does go off on one. “Yeah But Can We Boogie” shows a darker edge, a little moody, but still fast rough and frantic.
The style is consistent but you don’t tire because it is so good, so much fun, and he does it so well.
“Back To Your Cages” is one mean riff too.

If you like boogie, blues rock done rough’n’ready and heavy, you’ll love this.
